Guardian

I am the torch in the darkness
And the crushing darkness that smothers the light.
I am the blanket the warms against the cold
And the frost that steals away the heat.
I am the love that holds the hate at bay
And the depression that makes one weep in despair.
I am the shield that wards against the foe
And the weapon that sunders the defense.

To watch is my choice
(And remain hidden)
To guard is my duty
(And prepare to strike)
To protect is my life
(You are my watch and ward
And I shall not fail you).
